20 FEBRUARY is Nancy Wilson's Birthday

Nancy Sue Wilson was an American singer and actress whose career spanned over five decades, from the mid-1950s until her retirement in the early 2010s. She was especially notable for her single "(You Don't Know) How Glad I Am" and her version of the standard "Guess Who I Saw Today".

Wilson recorded over 70 albums and won three Grammy Awards for her work. During her performing career, Wilson was labelled a singer of blues, jazz, R&B, pop, and soul, a "consummate actress" and "the complete entertainer".

20 FEBRUARY is Rihanna's Birthday

Robyn Rihanna Fenty is a Barbadian singer, actress, and businesswoman. Born in Saint Michael and raised in Bridgetown, Barbados, Rihanna auditioned for American record producer Evan Rogers, who invited her to the United States to record demo tapes.

After signing with Def Jam in 2005, she soon gained recognition with the release of her first two studio albums, Music of the Sun (2005) and A Girl Like Me (2006), both of which were influenced by Caribbean music and peaked within the top ten of the US Billboard 200 chart.

21 FEBRUARY is Nina Simone's birthday

Nina Simone was born Eunice Kathleen Waymon. She was an American singer, pianist, songwriter and arranger.

Nina was often called a jazz musician. However, she didn't like people classifying her music or saying what genre it fell into.

Nina Simone was often called "The High Priestess of Soul."

23 FEBRUARY is Handel's Birthday

Have your students compare and contrast the lives and music of the Baroque era's two giants, Handel and Bach. Available on the MTR Membership site.
